A Memorable School Trip at Hilston Park

At Hilston Park, we recently had the pleasure of hosting John Keble Primary School for a four-day residential school trip from February 5th to February 9th. Amidst the picturesque landscapes and challenging weather conditions, 37 enthusiastic children and their dedicated teachers embarked on a journey of exploration, learning, and personal growth.

Despite encountering the unpredictable elements, such as rainfall, the resilience and perseverance displayed by both students and staff were nothing short of remarkable. Throughout the residential, the core values and positive behaviours of John Keble Primary School were evident in every activity and interaction. This experience provided a valuable opportunity for the students to learn and grow, highlighting the lasting benefits of school trips.

Experiences in Outdoor Learning

One of the highlights of the week was witnessing the kids eagerly preparing for room inspections, turning tidying up into a fun competition. Their talents shone brightly as they entertained us with music, dance, and drama, showcasing their creativity and flair. Additionally, the amazing first day was capped off with a campfire disco, where 'old' classics filled the air, and laughter echoed under the starlit sky—a moment of pure joy and camaraderie that brought everyone together in celebration, reflecting the essence of school activity trips. From maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and organisation to delivering captivating performances, the children exemplified the ethos of excellence and teamwork instilled by their school community.

As the days unfolded, it was inspiring to witness the children's confidence soar as they eagerly embraced each challenge presented to them. Whether conquering the high ropes course, navigating orienteering trails, or participating in team-building exercises, every activity offered valuable opportunities for growth and self-discovery in outdoor learning.

For example, during the high ropes course, students learned to trust themselves and their peers, overcoming fears and pushing beyond their comfort zones to reach new heights—both literally and metaphorically. Similarly, in team-building exercises, they honed their communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and leadership qualities, working collaboratively to achieve common goals.
